Dreamgirl-Kayla Mills

As my favorite model, I have photographed Kayla for over two years and was pleased to photograph her when she asked me to create portraits for her 40th birthday.  So, she rented studio space with lighting equipment and had an amazing makeup artist create a fashion look to transform her appearance.  It had been over 15 years since I had photographed in a studio setting after closing my studio in Florida, and it was a pleasure to be inside again.  As usual, Kayla brought her “A-game”, and we had a great time creating these personal images.  Happy Birthday!

SLAM DUNK 1.0 WITH KAYLA

THE CONCEPT FOR CREATING THESE DRONE PORTRAITS had been on my self-assignment bucket list for two years. It is based on two of the most iconic images in basketball history: Michael Jordan’s famous dunk (Air Jordan) and the spinning basketball on the fingertip of a Harlem Globetrotter player.

Upon asking my favorite model, Kayla Mills, to be the subject, her first comment was, “I can’t jump that high”. I assured her that the aerial perspective from the drone would solve the problem.  The only issue she discovered was keeping her eyes open for a split second while staring directly into the sun.  We nailed some shots without her squinting and missed on many. I am amazed at how I can utilize my drone as an artist’s tool for self-expression.  It is limitless, and gives cinematic views I have never seen before or thought possible.  As a drone cinematographer, I love using my flying camera platform for video and still photography.
